Crypto swap without fees: what Lumina does not add and what actually makes up the cost

You sometimes see the phrase "crypto swap without fees". This wording can be misleading: it describes the absence of additional service fees added by the wallet, not the absence of any cost. A crypto swap is still a market operation with several cost components that are independent of Lumina.

The unambiguous summary

Lumina does not add its own additional service fees to your swap. Lumina may, however, receive a commercial commission from its exchange partner. The quote may include the partner's pricing terms, spread, slippage, price impact and network fees. The rate and estimated amount received are displayed before your confirmation.

The six components of a swap's cost

To understand what you actually pay, you must distinguish six elements:

1. Service fees added by Lumina

Lumina does not add service fees on top of the quote provided by the exchange partner. The amount shown to you already reflects this absence of markup.

2. Commercial commission received by Lumina

Lumina may receive a commercial commission paid by its exchange partner to Lumina. This commission is not added by Lumina as a separate fee line on top of the quote. It may, however, be reflected in the pricing terms offered by the partner.

3. Partner fees or margin

The exchange partner may apply its own operating fees and margin. These are incorporated into the rate and estimated amount displayed in the quote before your confirmation.

4. Network fees (gas fees)

Network fees compensate the miners or validators that process the transaction. They vary according to the blockchain and network congestion. Depending on the swap flow, they may be estimated, bundled or presented in the partner's quote.

5. Spread

Spread is the gap between the buy price and the sell price displayed by the liquidity source. It is an implicit cost: you don't see it as a fee line item, but it directly influences the rate applied to your swap.

6. Slippage and price impact

  • Slippage is the difference between the rate estimated at quote time and the rate actually obtained at execution. It grows when available liquidity shrinks.
  • Price impact is the effect your own order has on the price: the larger your amount relative to available liquidity, the worse the price becomes for you.

These two elements can change the final amount you receive compared to the initial estimate.

What Lumina displays before your confirmation

Before confirmation, Lumina displays the estimated rate and amount provided by the partner, together with the pricing information available in the quote. Network fees are displayed when they are provided or estimated by the relevant swap flow.

You keep the final decision: after reviewing the quote, you choose to confirm or cancel the operation.

How to swap in Lumina Wallet

  1. Open the Swap tab in the app.
  2. Choose the token you want to exchange and the token you want to receive.
  3. Enter the amount to swap.
  4. Review the displayed quote: estimated rate and amount, together with the pricing information available (including network fees when they are provided or estimated).
  5. If the quote works for you, confirm the transaction. Otherwise, cancel and adjust.

Key takeaway

A crypto swap is never entirely free, even when the wallet itself adds no service fees. The real cost depends on the partner, the network, the spread, the slippage and the price impact. Best practice: review the quote, compare if needed, and check every parameter before confirming.
